Bangkok has just over 16% of Thailands populaion and since 2000 Bangkok's population has grown 2.5 times the rate of growth from 1980 to 2000. Between 2000 and 2010 the city grew 30% in population.

The urban area covers almost 900 square miles this is 1.5 times the density of Paris urban areas.

Much of the expansion has been in Bangkok and in the suburbs around it. Not only has Bangkok built lots of sky scrapers and tall building it has also built lots of town houses in the new suburbs.

Bangkok's problems for the future are traffic allevation and garbage manegment.

On average in Bankok the amount of people that go on trips a day to work, and school were 17 million in 2011 and is pridicted to go to 18.3 million at 2019. The solution is to get more and easy ways for transport, more roads, buses and trains. Elevated trains and freeways have been built in the last 20 years to help people get around the city quickly.

Bangkokians dispose an average of 1 kilogram of garbage a day. The solution is to develop an integrated garbage management system (Disposal/Compost/ Energy).
